Since 1941, the tradition of homage to St. Nicodemus is repeated in the Port of Salvador. Nicodemus, or `conqueror of the people`, has mention in the Gospel of John, as main Pharisee, much respected and honored by the Jewish people. In Salvador, the history of the patron saint assumes at least three versions, in which he was found, dreamed or seen in the Quay of Coal by the workers of the Port of Salvador. The celebration is called the Festa do Cachimbo, which came from one of the first organizers, Cyril of Nicodemus, who had the habit of walking on the quay with a pipe offered by an English company, for which he worked. Cyril determined that each participant of the party would receive a pipe of remembrance, which made the object the symbol of the celebration.
