Poole Forge, a colonial era iron forge in Narvon, Pennsylvania USA. Listed in National Register of Historic Places. Features an 1859 Covered Bridge over the Conestoga River, in Caernarvon Township. Historic stone buildings including an Ironmaster’s Mansion, a lime kiln, a Paymaster’s building, and two tenant houses with Architectural style: Federal, Georgian. The abundant gardens and stately trees provide plenty of colorful blooms spring through fall. James Old, a Welshman, purchased the property in 1775 and built the mansion. An experienced iron master, he established and operated the forge. Poole Forge refined local pig iron, then sold it to blacksmiths, or sent it to markets in Philadelphia, where it was used to make armaments for the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War was during 1775-1783, also known as the American Revolution, arose from growing tensions between residents of Great Britain’s 13 North American colonies and the colonial government, which represented the British crown. Just prior to George Washington becoming the first president in 1789.
