Muriquis are rare among primates because of the lack of aggression between males of the same social group. Muriquis live in multimale/multifemale groups. Female muriquis copulate with several males during the breeding season. This strategy has been suggested to to be used by female muriquis to confuse paternity and to reduce the chances of males committing infanticide. Muriquis are grouped with the Atelids, which have a unique prehensile tail, which is used a fifth limb capable to sustain their entire body weight. In this picture we see the silhouette of two adult males.
