| The lake is completely surrounded by mountains. On its southern and southwestern sides lies the Osterhorngruppe, a mountain range about 1,800 meters above sea level. South of Sankt Gilgen rises the Zwölferhorn (1,521 m), which can be visited by gondola. On the northern side of the lake is the Schafberg (Salzkammergut-Berge). The Schafbergbahn cog railway leads to the summit at 1,782 m. |
