Keeping its body motionless, an African chameleon looks around from a branch with his flexible eyes that can independently point to different directions. Chameleons are sit-and-wait predators and camouflaging is a part of their hunting strategy (ambush). This chameleon is green but patches with different colour intensity are visible on its skin. This pattern helps the chameleon to blur with surrounding vegetation (the same system is used in military camouflaging). Chameleons are known for their ability to change colours, which helps them to adjust to actual type of vegetation. Chameleons are distinct lizards that are distributed across Africa, and parts of Europe and Asia. This one lives in Western Africa (Ghana). |
