The bridge was built on the basis of the Krasnoluzhsky bridge, which connected Berezhkovsky and Luzhnetskaya embankments since 1907. In 2000, the bridge span length of 135 m and a weight of 1,400 tons was transported 2.5 km upstream of the Moscow River, where it was hoisted onto new pillars. Thus, the bridge named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky was created.
