| Morris Dees is an Alabamian, born on December 16, 1936. He is a co-founder and chief trial counsel of the Southern Poverty Law Center, SPLC, an organization advocating for civil and political rights and social justice. His legal strategies seriously weakened the Ku Klux Klan. In recent years, however, critics criticized SPLC for having a bloated staff and spending too much time on fund raising. On March 14, 2019 he was fired for contributing to a poor workplace environment which included at least one allegation of sexual harassment of a female employee. He is photographed here at a speaking engagement at the Jewish Community Center in Whippany, New Jersey on December 1, 1996. |
