In Genesis 12:6-7, Abram (later Abraham) arrives at the oak tree of Moreh, near Shechem, after entering the land of Canaan. It is here that God first reveals his promise to give the land to Abram's descendants. Abram responds by building an altar to the Lord. The oak of Moreh is described as a significant landmark, possibly a place of significance for the Canaanites, and the location where Abram first worships God in the promised land.
