Pictured is a monument to Castillian navigator of Basque origin Juan Sebastian Elcano. It is located on Glorieta de los Marineros, Seville, and is surrounded by manicured bushes, flowers and trees. The monument commemorates his departure from Seville on the 19th of August 1519, to go around the world for the first time aboard the Nao Victoria on the Magellan expedition to the Spice islands. The work was completed in 1973 and restored in 1997. The artist was Antonio Cano Correa. |
