| The Monterey Cypress, Hesperocyparis macrocarpa or Cupressus macrocarpa, is native only to the Central California coast, and as such is an ideal tree for San Franciscos Golden Gate Park, which is built up on wind swept sand dunes. In addition to acting as natural wind breaks, their roots also help keep the sand dunes in place. These trees are found around the perimeter of Strawberry Hill , in the center of Blue Heron Lake, formerly known as Stow Lake. |
