The toque macaque is a reddish-brown-coloured Old World monkey endemic to Sri Lanka, where it is known as the rilewa or rilawa. Sri Lankan Monkey. Monkeys. Total of three species of monkeys are found in Sri Lanka. Langurs represented by two species namely Tufted gray langur and Purple-faced leaf monkey and one macaque species namely Toque macaque. Purple-faced leaf monkey and Toque macaque is endemic to the island while gray langur can be found in India too. |
