| Found on each side of the chancel, the Misericords provided resting places for those attending long services without actually sitting down. the Misericords date from the 1400s are also known as mercy or pity seats as well as miserere. The resting place of William Shakespeare is also in the Chancel below the High Altar of the Holy Trinity Church in Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire, England. |
