Miguel Hidalgo was a Roman Catholic Priest from Guanajuato Mexico. After 300 years of Spanish rule in Mexico, there was a growing cry for independence,Hidalgo became one of the leaders in the push for independence. On 16 September 1810,he rang the church bells in a call for revolution, and what is the start for the war of independence. Although eventually caught and executed by Spain for his actions,Miguel Hidalgo is remembered by all Mexicans as a liberator. This bronze statue was presented by Mexico to the city of San Francisco on the 152nd anniversary,16 September 1962. He is so important of a figure in San Francisco, there is also a nearby residential street,Hidalgo Terrace named for him. As seen 22 August 2023.
