Mastichin (from the Italian mestichino - "spatula") is an artistic spatula of various sizes with a thin oblong steel stack. It is used for mixing oil paints, for applying paints from tubes to the palette, for cleaning the palette from paint residues and removing mistakenly applied strokes. There is also a palette knife painting technique, in which paint is applied to the base not with a brush, but with a palette knife, which makes it possible to create new, interesting patterns.
