Also called sea ball, beach ball or Neptune ball, the egagropiles are spherical or ovoid agglomerates with a feline consistency, composed of filaments and dead fragments of Posidonia oceanica plants. Their formation is due to the continuous rolling and dragging on the sand produced by the wind and the surf of the sea. |
