| The Italian Sansepolcro is a small, flat, walled town at the foot of the Apennines in Tuscany and the centre of the Upper Tiber valley. The Palio della Balestra (crossbow tournament) is held every year on the second Sunday of September when large numbers of citizens dress in mediaeval costume and the Piazza Torre di Berta becomes the site for the historical competition during which the crossbow-men of Sansepolcro challenge those from Gubbio. Drum and brass bands accompany the event. |
