Damselflies have a unique mating process where the male grasps the female behind the head using claspers at the end of his abdomen, forming a tandem or wheel position. The female then curves her abdomen to connect with the male's secondary genitalia, where he deposits sperm. After mating, the male often remains attached to the female to guard her from other males while she lays eggs.
