Close up of mating Common Blue Damselflies seen in a wheat field mid June. There are about 20 species of damselfly In Great Britain and Ireland. This is the male and female common blue and I believe the female has eyes of a different colour. The pair fly together over the water and eggs are laid within a suitable plant, just below the surface. The eggs hatch and the larvae, called nymphs, live in the water.
