A paleontologist holds what appears to be a Mastodon bone discovered inside the living room of a house while renovations where being made, in a village in the province of Santa Rosa, Guatemala. According to paleontologists who still have to conduct studies on the bones, they could have belong to a mastodon, who is believed to have roamed in this area of Central America, between 30 to 10 thousand years ago, during the Cenozoic Era. This belief is because of previous discoveries in the area, where prehistoric animals like Mastodons, Giant Sloths and Armadillos have been found before. The bones will be researched by the National University's Faculty of History, and then exhibited in the National Museum of Guatemalan Prehistory located in the eastern department of Zacapa.
