| Playwright, writer, and script editor Mart Crowley appears at the Meet the Nominees press junket in New York City on May 1, 2019. Crowley is best known for his trailblazing gay themed play, `The Boys in the Band,` which opened off-Broadway in 1968. On the 50th anniversary year, 2018, it reopened as `Boys in the Band,` and it was awarded a Tony for Best Revival of a Play at the 2019 Tony Awards. Crowley suffered a heart attack and died as he was recovering from the surgery in Manhattan on March 7, 2020 at the age of 84. |
