A male Black Widow spider hangs upside down in his web awaiting his prey. Basically harmless, the male lacks the dangerous toxins found in the female Black Widow's venom. They are about 1/2 the size of the females with smaller bodies but longer legs. Males mature about 70 days after emergence from the egg sac and live only another month or two. Captured in Arizona with a Canon 7D & Canon 100mm macro lens.
