The Palace of Justice of Rome, seat of the Supreme Court of Cassation, was built between 1888 and 1910 on a project by the architect Calderini: this magniloquent structure, called by the Romans `Il Palazzaccio`, was inaugurated on 11 January 1911. Externally in travertine, the building is the fruit of the great design of its author who wants to speak a language of united and modern Italy. Its large size expresses the Minister Guardasigilli`s Giuseppe Zanardelli`s plan to create a “monument of severe beauty which, on the trail of the most imitable sixteenth-century models, combines the antiquity and elegance with the imprint of that majesty and that strength which they are the essential attributes of law and law `: a real` Temple of Justice
