Pictured is a Statue of Lady Justice in the interior of the Piarist Church, Krems on the Danube, Austria. The church is the oldest in the city. It is also called Krems Frauenberg Church. Lady Justice is an allegorical personification of the moral force in judicial systems. Her attributes are a blindfold, a balance, and a sword. The origin of Lady Justice was Lustitia, the goddess of Justice within Roman mythology. The sword represented authority in ancient times, and conveys the idea that justice can be swift and final. The scales represent the weighing of evidence, and the scales lack a foundation in order to signify that evidence should stand on its own. The blindfold, representing impartiality, was not added until the mid 16th century.
