The Luda Kamchia River originates from a spring-fountain (at 1,109 m above sea level) at the northern foot of Vratnik Peak in the Sliven Mountains. To the village of Gradets it flows in a deep and narrow valley, overgrown with deciduous forests. After Gradets its valley widens and forms large meanders. From its source to the village of Daskotna it flows, generally, in an easterly direction between the Razboyna mountain ridge and the Kotlen and Varbishka Mountains to the north and the Sliven, Stidovska and Karnobat Mountains to the south.
