At the corner of Jan Van Eyck Square is an imposing building with a tower. The Loge des Bourgeois (Poortersloge) was built between the end of the 14th century and the beginning of the 15th century. It was used as a meeting place at the Genootschap van Witte Beer (Society of the White Bear), a bourgeois society. The big bourgeois received the merchants there so that business could be conducted in a relaxed atmosphere. The lodge was ideally located, since commercial vessels were moored there before unloading their goods, and foreign warehouses were nearby.August 7th 2016
