| Joseph Duncan was an absolute scoundrel but as colorful of a figure as any.
He invested in real estate; owned a bank; was an auctioneer and art dealer, along with many other things. And he managed to loose money, for himself and his investors, at almost everything he did.
One of his San Francisco businesses was a bank at this corner of Montgomery and California streets, that was practically an absolute fortress. He lost so much money for so many investors, he had to go into hiding.
He is also the father of famed, modern dancer Isadora Duncan. |
