Ošljak is the smallest inhabited island in Croatia, which is believed to have been inhabited since ancient times. The local population also calls the island Lazaret. It got its name because in the 17th century it served as a hospital (infirmary) for the isolation of leprosy and plague patients for the entire Zadar area. Today, it is an idyllic vacation spot filled with beautiful nature and traditional houses of Mediterranean architecture - approximately 60 of them.Explore the fishing port, visit the church of St. Mary from the 6th century and the ruins of a windmill from the 16th century and the ruins of the summer house of the Calogera family. There is also an old part of the settlement with a dozen houses - the Val?i? village - which was created in the 17th and 18th centuries. On the island you can also see a bunker from the Second World War.
