| Nymphaea nouchali, often known by itsÃÂ synonymÃÂ Nymphaea stellata, or byÃÂ common namesÃÂ blue lotus,[1]ÃÂ star lotus,[citation needed]ÃÂ red and blue water lily,ÃÂ blue star water lilyÃÂ orÃÂ manel flowerÃÂ is aÃÂ water lilyÃÂ of genusÃÂ Nymphaea. It is native to southern and eastern parts of Asia, and is theÃÂ national flowerÃÂ ofÃÂ Sri LankaÃÂ andÃÂ Bangladesh. In Sanscrit it isÃÂ utpala. This species is sometimes considered to include the blue Egyptian lotusÃÂ Nymphaea caerulea.[2]ÃÂ In the past, taxonomic confusion has occurred, with the nameÃÂ Nymphaea nouchaliÃÂ incorrectly applied toÃÂ Nymphaea pubescens.[3] |
