Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands and one of the largest ports in the world. In the 1990s, the Kop van Zuid was built on the south bank of the river the Nieuwe Maas as a new business centre. In the front the historical building of the shipping company Holland-Amerika Lijn (HAL) from 1901. In 1993 the building was transformed into a hotel and Grand Café with the name Hotel New York.
