The lighthouse was manned by three keepers with their families, it became automatic in 1971. Flashing white light every 5 seconds, it is constructed of Red Brick 37m high, with 168 steps, has a range of 21 nautical miles, and has no public access, and is one of over 200 sited around the wild coastline of Scotland
