Tianqiao along the central axis of Beijing , The bridge was a place that emperors had to pass should they want to attend any ceremonies at the Temple of Heaven of the Altar of the God of Agriculture , or go hunting at Nanyuan , meaning the ââ¬Åsouthern parkââ¬Â . As only emperors , which considered the sons of heaven in ancient China could walk on it , the bridge got its name -Tianqiao , meaning the ââ¬Å bridge of heaven ââ¬Â. It became an amusement park of common people and a trading center of low-end merchandise , people could see diverse folk art performances and variety shows , buy apparel , hats and shoes , eat specialty snacks , and get their clothes mended and their household supplies repaired here .
