An object such as a leaf can reflect, absorb, and transmit the radiation that reaches it. A green leaf absorbs more radiation in the red and blue parts of the visible spectrum (because the leaf's chlorophyll uses these wavelengths for photosynthesis), while reflecting mostly green light, which is why the leaf appears green. If you hold a leaf up to the sun, it may appear translucent. This is part of the radiation that is transmitted through the entire leaf. |
