The word Mandaçaia Mandassaia is an indigenous name that means “beautiful watchman”. The Indians, as early peasants, really knew why they gave meaningful names to animals and plants. In the case of Mandaçaia, it was because of the watch bee that always stays at the entrance to the hive to protect the nest. She is one of the most beautiful native bees with a black head and thorax, an abdomen with broken yellow bands or not depending on the species and rust colored wings. They are between 10 and 11 millimeters in size and usually make their nests in hollows of trees such as licurizeiro, umbuzeiro, umburana and even in the aroeira in the Caatinga.
