Typically, the fruit is pale green to yellow when ripe, with sweet white & x28;or, more rarely, pink or red& x29; flesh, and a very thick albedo & x28;rind pith& x29;. It is a large citrus fruit, 15ââ¬â25 centimetres & x28;5.9ââ¬â9.8àin& x29; in diameter, usually weighing 1ââ¬â2 kilograms & x28;2.2ââ¬â4.4àlb& x29;. Leafàpetiolesàare distinctly winged. The fruit tastes like a sweet, mildàgrapefruit& x28;believed to be a hybrid ofàCitrus maximaàand the orange& x29;,àalthough the typical pomelo is much larger than the grapefruit, and also has a much thicker rind. The pomelo has none, or very little, of the common grapefruit& x27;s bitterness, but the enveloping membranous material around the segments is bitter, considered inedible, and thus is usually discarded.
