| Kyoto, Otoyo Shrine, a painting in wood representing the collection of chrisanthemus at the Otoyo Shrine in Kyoto, Japan. Otoyo Shrine was built in the Heian period (794-1185) to pray for the healing of Emperor Uda's illness. The Ookuni-sha Shrine, the last shrine, is home to adorable "komane (guardian rats)," and is especially crowded with visitors on New Year's holidays in the year of the rat. |
