Krka National Park - a place known primarily for its magnificent waterfalls. The entire park covers an area of 109 square kilometers. What distinguishes the Krka National Park is the numerous waterfalls on the Krka river formed in limestone sediments. Due to its unique location and various types of habitats, the area of the Krka river is characterized by exceptionally rich flora and fauna. There are over a thousand species and plant subspecies in the park. Sections in which the river forms lakes as well as swamps are inhabited by amphibians and reptiles, while in the river there are numerous endemic fish species. Krka plays an important role in the spring and autumn migration of birds. Due to the number of species, it is one of the most important areas of Europe in terms of ornithology. The area along the Krka River is rich in cultural and historical monuments, traces of human creativity from prehistory to present times. There are the remains of the Roman aqueduct Scardona, the remains of the Roman military camp Burnum and the remains of the medieval Croatian fortresses from the fourteenth century. Among the sacred buildings, the most valuable buildings are the Franciscan Church of Our Lady of Grace, located on the Visovac island, as well as the Krka monastery.
