The Western gull, Larus occidentalis, like the near identical California gull, are known for having beautiful white bodies. But those are the adult. The juveniles are more brown and white mottled blotching. The main distinguishing characteristics between the Western and California gull is to notice the legs. The California gull has yellow legs, while the Western gull has pink legs. If you can`t see the legs, they are just `Gull`, there is no bird called `Sea gull`. As seen over the Carpinteria California Beach 16 August 2022.
