One of the often forgotten bits of history of Golden Gate Park is how its original superintendents,William Hill and John McLaren, prohibited all cars from their bit of nature, which lasted for only three years. It wasn't until 1967 that cars were again banned, but only on Sundays and holidays, and only on the JFK Promenade between Stanyan and Transverse Drive. With the arrival of the Covid pandemic in 2019,outdoor exercise was now recommended and encouraged. To help with this, the city officially banned all vehicles from this part of the park now seven days a week. To help encourage everyone to come on out and enjoy this Promenade, are all kinds of new art works have been put in,and on,the road. The newest piece is a metal silhouette of a child jumping in fun, planted into a tree stump. There is absolutely no indication who did this piece, when,or what they titled it. As enjoyed 6 April 2023.
