Japanese people in the temple at new year's eve. In the begining of a new year, Japanese people gathered to visit different shrines and pray for a good year. The event is called Hatsumode and it takes place between 1-4 January. Water-filled basins are used by worshipers for washing their hands, mouth and finally the handle of the water ladle to purify themselves before approaching the main Shinto shrine. |
