Janeway lesions are a characteristic finding in infective endocarditis, a serious infection of the heart valves or endocardium. These lesions are small, erythematous or hemorrhagic, painless macules or papules that typically occur on the palms or soles of the feet. Janeway lesions are believed to result from septic emboli that deposit bacteria into the small blood vessels of these areas, leading to localized inflammation and tissue damage.
