Stakna Monastery is an old Buddhist shrine nestled along the bank of the Indus River. It is perched atop a hill, which is shaped like a tiger`s nose Stakna. It is amongst the several religious estates that were gifted to Chosje Jamyang Palkar – the renowned scholar and saint. Dharmaraja Jamyang Namgyal was the one who offered it in 1580, after inviting the scholar to Ladakh. Out of the several idols and images in the monastery, the most significant one is that of Arya
