Built by Vasari between 1562 and 1564.
The facade is made using the technique of sgraffito, a succession of white patterns on a dark gray background, representing signs of the zodiac and the civil, religious and military virtues of the Grand Duke.
In 1847 he became the seat of the Scuola Normale Superiore.
Statue of Cosimo I
It dates from 1596. Cosme I with a dolphin at his feet symbolizes his dominion over the seas. |
