Ipomoea purpurea, Glória da Manhã, Corda-de-viola, is a species of the genus Ipomoea, native to Mexico and Central America. This name, which designates many of the 500-700 species of Ipomoea, is due to the behavior of its open flowers at night or in the light. The Greek word `Ips` designates worm σκουλήκι, `ipomoea` refers to its entanglement. Ipomoeas were already designated as `Convolvulus` and this species by Convolvulus pupurea for its color, only in the 20th century did it receive its current name Glória da Manhã Morning Glory. [1] Like all morning glories, the plant wraps around structures with its branches. Growing to a height of 2 to 3 meters. The leaves are heart-shaped and the branches have brown fur. The flowers are hemaphrodite, with five petals, with the shape of a trumpet, predominantly blue to purple or white, with 3 to 6 cm in diameter.
