A kid looks with curiosity through window hole at visitors in Mankessim, a small junction town between Accra and Cape Coast in Southern Ghana (Western Africa). Nowadays, Mankessim attracts tourists by its largest-in-Ghana posuban, a sacred shrine that consists of three-storey construction with peculiar figures and symbols. Pusuban shrines are characteristic for central coastal Ghana and they are the work of asafo companies, military groups that are traditionally responsible for defence of towns in Akan societies.
