The Independence Monument was erected at the initiative of generals Gheorghe Macarovici and Ion Ra?cu, as well as the politician N. N. S?veanu. The monument was inaugurated during World War I and unveiled on June 29, 1916, in honor of the blood sacrifice of the soldiers of the 10th Dorobanti "Putna" Regiment.
