Hundafoss is the tallest and first of three waterfalls encountered along the popular trail to Svartifoss in Skaftafell National Park. The name of the waterfall is derived from the Icelandic word - hundur - meaning dog. It got its name - Dogsfall - from the fact that during the swelling of the river sometimes dogs from the farms floated off the waterfall. The Baerjargil here plunge 78-feet off a slightly undercut cliff in a narrow plunge type fall, with rather thick foliage growing all around the canyon that makes a clear view of the falls difficult to obtain. Though the Baerjargil is not a large stream by any means, it does swell to a much larger size while the winter snow is melting, and the falls will become considerably more impressive at such time. Hundafoss lies along the track to the famous Svartifoss. Iceland, Europe.
