Galata Tower, Galata Tower in Turkish is one of the biggest and oldest towers of Istanbul. The tower is 63 meters 206 feet tall and offers panoramic views of the old town. It was built in the 14th century by the Genoese colony as part of the defensive wall surrounding the Galata districts just opposite the old Constantinople. They called it the `Christea Turris` or the `Tower of Christ`. The Genoese were involved in the trade with the Byzantines and the tower was used for the surveillance of the Port in Haliç.
