When the 12th Century Norman church at Shobdon was pulled down in 1751 to make way for a new church, the interior arches were moved to the top of a neighbouring hill. The Shobdon Arches consist of a central chancel arch and two Norman doorways. The fine, though weathered, carvings are the work of the Herefordshire School of sculpture, which dominated in the western counties during the mid 12th Century. Tympana were once probably part of the original doorways. Gables and pinnacles are 18th Century medieval style.
