Herculaneum was an ancient city on the Gulf of Naples that sank like Pompeii, Stabiae and Oplontis during the eruption of Vesuvius in the second half of the year 79. The modern successor settlement at the same location has been called Ercolano since 1969. This photo shows a birds eye view over the town and was taken in 2015 |
