Helmeted guineafowl (Numida meleagris) is the best known of the guinea-fowl bird family, Numididae. Native to Africa, this large bird has been widely introduced in various countries, as a domesticated species. It has round body and small unfeathered head decorated with a dull yellow or reddish bony knob, and bare skin with red, blue, or black hues. Body plumage is gray-black spangled with white and the wings are short and rounded, and the tail is likewise short. |
